This was one of the pieces out of the first kiln at Shiro Oni. Black clay with black metallic glaze.
This clay was very rough. Very few of these pieces came out because they didn't vitrify even at Cone 9, where all the rest of the clays I used vitrified. I put them in the kiln twice and eventually had to give up. A few did vitrify but the rest became a new piece title "Mud," a pile of smashed pieces. I wanted to create something entirely new out of the pieces that were non-functional.
Chattered bottoms.
