The Individual and the Collective

This body of work is made with various clay bodies and minimal glazing. As a whole, the group demonstrates the contrasting clays available in Japan. Individually, each piece can be seen as an object for the home, carefully crafted to bring joy to the person using it and elevate their mundane, daily experiences.
Across cultures we can see huge differences in the celebration of the individual versus the celebration of the collective, and in Onishi I’ve experienced the benefits of both attitudes. The body of work I’ve made here can be viewed up close and intimately with one piece, or with a step back to see the flow of the whole group.
